Catnip Corner

Catnip Corner

My main passions in life are cats and writing and this new section combines both quite nicely. This blog is the chatty bits which are usually found at the beginning of the Mewsletter and the Scratching Post but in a bid to make both of them more user friendly, I am cutting the chatter and putting it into a blog. I hope that you'll take time out to read them and more importantly, enjoy them! I always welcome feedback so please write to me using the contact us box.

Thank you for reading.

paws for thought

Paws For Thought

a place where you can stop off at any time of the day to rest a while; put your feet up; have a drink and relax – perhaps with your favourite feline on your lap or nearby.

Paws for Thought is a collection of quotations written by people from all walks of life on their passion for cats. I do hope you’ll enjoy them enough that you’ll want to come by often to just sit and find peace with your feline companion while you read.

A Message from Pauline

New Beginnings

January is traditionally a month of new beginnings.  Many people make New Year’s Resolutions on January 1st only to lapse by January 2nd!  I know, I’ve been there.  But what about if it wasn’t so much a New Year’s Resolution you were embarking upon, but a new way of thinking? So instead of saying ‘I’m going to lose weight’, why not say ‘I’m going to live more healthily.’  Just changing our perception can often mean the difference between success and failure.

That’s the great thing about Casey and Gibbs and all felines in general.  They don’t stand on the scales on January 1st, tut and shake their heads, or sob into a cappuccino after they’ve taken their measurements and written them down in the Book of Shame.  They are as they are – perfect.  Have you ever known a feline that wasn’t? Even those with disabilities are still perfect in my opinion – why wouldn’t they be? Perhaps it’s a disability they were born with, perhaps it’s the result of an accident – but all felines are a work of art.

And no matter if we’re plumpity (to quote from Jem Vanston’s wonderful book: A Cat Called Dog) or a bit on the lean side, we are as we are, too. Our cats often choose us; Casey and Gibbs both chose to live with me from wherever their original homes were.  So, if they’ve chosen me they must like me, and if they like me, they obviously don’t mind the bits of plumpity either! So why do I get so hung up on it?

Another thought as this month’s update is straddling two themes (New Year and Valentine’s Day) is that cats are more forgiving of us than we are of ourselves.  Perhaps we need to lighten up and be kinder to ourselves and love and respect ourselves more.

Casey, Gibbs and I wish you all a wonderful Valentine’s Day with love in abundance to share with your family members, friends, and feline and canine companions.

Love Pauline, Casey and Gibbs xxx

Don't forget to treat your cat and home for fleas all year round - our centrally-heated homes means those pesky parasites can thrive in the winter months too.
