Ray NardRay Nard is an old fox who has been coming for years to dine at Tom Cat Towers. He silently slinks up the garden path usually about midnight and hoovers up anything on the patio which has been left over by the daytime diners.  Maid is a little skitty about going outside when he is around, but cats aren’t bothered by him.

He has a penchant for bones; chicken bones, beef bones etc., which he chomps then carries off. Or we can see him sniffing his way around the lawn trying to root out any remaining morsels that earlier visitors to the garden may have not noticed. We do have other foxes that pass by, including one who races across the garden in the daylight which panics Maid.

Hedgepigs are another regular. We get huge great spiky ones or little tiny cute babies as they snuffle along the patio, crashing into the big ceramic bowls of water which the blackbirds bathe in. Cats give hedgepigs a wide berth; they only have to have their paw pads punctured once by the hedgepigs’ lethal spikes to know when to back off!

Between them, hedgepigs and Ray Nard ensure that the lawn and patio are totally cleared of food in time for the next morning when the kitchens of Tom Cat Towers are thrown open for another day’s dining.

They are rather like cleaning staff ensuring all is hoovered up for the next dinner service at Tom Cat Towers.

A Cats Prayer

Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
