Casey having a well-earned restHi everyone, how’re you doing?

Since I last wrote, my spell of frazzlement has not abated, and my nursing skills and expertise have been in constant demand.

Dad had to go to the human vets’ place where he had an hoperation – something to do with his heart – Mum did ‘splain things to me but the terminology she used went over my whiskers.  Suffice to say, Gibbs and I were the welcoming committee waiting in the hallway on their return.  Like before, Mum helped Dad to the sofa in the front room but as it was the hottest day of the year (for 40 years or something) he didn’t need the blue snuggly blanket this time.

I have to tell you, brace yourselves, but he didn’t look very good.  His colouring was all wrong; he looked grey, almost ashen and he slept on and off for most of the next day.  Gibbs wanted to go outside and talk to our magpie friends – yes, they’re still here, regaling us with the ‘Legend of Ollie, the Brave Little Ginger Cat’ and Gibbs, who didn’t know Ollie, likes listening to the stories, so I said I’d look after Dad while he chatted.  He’s outside now, lounging on the clubhouse roof,  while I’m writing this article, trying to help Mum get the website updated.

Anyhoo, after a day or two of rest and Mum’s amazing meatballs, his colour returned to his face, he didn’t look quite so drawn and he looks even more handsome, (according to Mum!) Needless to say, I didn’t desert my post once, and I single-handedly took care of Dad, on the nursing side of things, while Mum kept him well-fed and watered.  Between us, we made him better again.  I suppose the doctors at the human vets’ place had a small part to play, doing something to his heart to make it work a bit more efficiently again, but I’d like to think that it was down to me and Mum!

Casey's 6th birthdayAnd I’ve had another birthday.  The day that Dad had his hoperation, was the same day that I had my birthday.  Mum said I’m 6 years old now but as I have no concept of years, that also just went over my whiskers.  Mum gave me the 21st June for my birthday because it’s the longest day so she figured that it would mean there would be more hours of daylight where she could give me more love. Personally meowing, she couldn’t give me more love if she tried.  The woman is a kissing machine, always kissing me and Gibbs (when he’s not outside communing with Nature – but magpies in particular!) and I do feel very loved. We both do.

Hopefully, by the time I write my next piece, life will have settled down a bit and I’ll feel less befrazzled.

Till then, stay safe in the sun and if you have white ears or noses, get your human staff to slap some kitty sunblock on to protect you.

Love

Casey xxx
