I only have one cat now, but she was a stray that lived in the neighbourhood of my son and his wife.  They already had a dog and a couple of cats, but my daughter-in-law felt so sorry for this pregnant stray that she put food out for it.  To express her gratitude, this Mama cat had her kittens under the back porch where she had been fed.

One morning Mama cat was crying loudly and seemed very agitated and Betsy went out to see what had her so upset.  Scattered around the yard were tufts of yellow fur and a big male cat not far away.  Betsy checked under the porch and one little yellow kitten was all that was there.

When she called me wondering if I could take this longhaired black and gold cat and her little yellow kitten I could not say no.  Mama cat became Sweetie Pie and the kitten was Sugar. I finally gave the kitten to my grandson’s family - that was about 6 years ago and Sweetie Pie has never even asked to leave the house, content to be where she is well fed and safe.  She has been spayed and had surgery to remove a beebe from her leg that had made her only use 3 legs.

And right now Sweetie Pie is asking for her dinner, so I’d best go and feed her!

A Cats Purr

"Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...

A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice."
