Ceci's Corner

Ceci enjoying her new bedCeci is a very special little lady who lives in Nederland, Texas, with her human Dad, Darren, and her foster brother and sister: Tigger and Gabby.

She has a lot to say on a lot of issues and she’s certainly a feisty little miss.  She is also blind, but that doesn’t deter her from speaking out on what she feels passionate about.

Hi everyone

Please forgive our delay in writing another piece - we've had a lot going on.

TiggerShortly after our last update, we lost our foster cat, Tigger.  Dad rescues him from the neighbourhood, and TNR'd him.  He later noticed Tigger's eyes were messed up, which turned out to be Bilateral Entropion; a condition where your eyelids start turning inward...which causes the eyelashes and hair to dig into the eyeball and cornea.

Tigger had surgery to correct the problem, then he stayed inside with us.  On July 20th, Tigger passed away suddenly.  Dad took about 12 seconds of video to show our vet.  Based on that, our vet believes it was congestive heart failure.  Tigger was buried in our back yard, alongside the other fosters we've lost over the years.

Our home was flooded during Hurricane Harvey.  We got about 10" of water throughout our home.  When it receded, Dad evacuated us to a friend's house.  Later that morning we moved to another friend's house, and that's where we stayed until the 6th October.  We are thankful to have had a safe place to stay though.

Ceci and Beau on our birthdayThe work on our home is far from done.  October 6th (the day we moved back home) was my 2nd Birthday, and my brother (the dog) Beau's 11th Birthday!  The night we got home we got to have a special dinner and a couple new toys too!

Thank you for reading my page, and for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Ceci

Hi everyone!

Please forgive us for not writing in a while.  Dad has been very busy with work.  Two of our pet chickens, Minnie and Ellie, passed away a month or so ago.

Ceci, Minnie (with the black nose) Pearl (with the pink nose)We’ve had 3 fosters recently.  Gracie, and her kittens, Minnie and Pearl.  Dad caught Gracie, and had our vet spay and vaccinate her.  At that time, we didn’t know she had kittens, but they showed up in our back yard one night!  Gracie has been adopted, and hopefully Minnie and Pearl will be adopted soon too.  Dad has asked that they be adopted together, as a bonded pair.

We got a One Fast Cat Wheel!  All of us use it, except for Tamale and Sweetie.  Even Minnie and Pearl ran on it!  We have videos but aren’t sure whether they can be uploaded.  You can see them on my Facebook page too.

My oldest brother, Tamale, turned 12 years old on June 4th.  Franklin turned 5 on August 8th.  Franklin was Dad’s first bottle baby foster, back in 2013, and he was only 3 days old when he got him!

The repairs for the damage to our home (from Hurricane Harvey) just started a couple weeks ago.  We’re living in a 33-foot travel trailer that’s parked on our driveway, until all of the repairs are finished.

Thank you for visiting my page :)

Hi everyone!

We have great news!  The repairs from the damage to our home, from Hurricane Harvey, are finally complete!  We’ve moved back into our home.  Dad still has a few things to move out of the RV and into the house, but it shouldn’t take much longer.

My sister, Sweetie, and brothers Franklin and Little Man were initially a little freaked out by the “new” surroundings.  Sweetie ran out the front door at night, and Franklin and Little Man camped out in the smaller bathroom for a long time.  However, everyone seems to have settled in now.

Our recent senior rescue, Gracie, is doing well.  She’s eating more and sleeping a lot too.  That’s expected, given her advanced age.

We hope that everyone has a Happy Valentine’s Day.  Thank you very much for visiting, liking, and especially sharing my Facebook page.  We appreciate your consideration and support.

Till the next time,

Ceci

 Hi everyone!

Tamale - a life well livedWe hate to start the new year off with bad news, but it's unavoidable.

On January 10th, 2021, we lost our oldest brother, Tamale.  Almost 3 weeks have passed now, and it still hurts like it happened yesterday.

Y'all know that, over the last couple years, he'd had a few health problems.  In addition, he was diagnosed with CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) on January 8th.  Very early that morning, Dad spent 4 hours or so at the animal ER with Tamale on oxygen there.  After taking Tamale from the ER to our Vet (also while on oxygen), later that day we received the diagnosis.  Dad brought him home and kept him as comfortable as possible.

Our dog brother, Beau, also has CHF, but our vet explained that it affects cats much worse than it does dogs; very often with little to no symptoms, until it is too late.  Anyway, it was clear that Tamale began shutting down.  Dad made the painful decision to have him euthanized on January 10th.

Tamale and dadA friend of ours drove Dad to the animal ER, so he could hold Tamale.  Dad stayed with Tamale the entire time.  With the exception of setting him down to explore the blanket on the exam table, Dad never once broke physical contact with Tamale.  When it was done, Dad brought Tamale home for a while.  He laid him down in our den, and we each had plenty of time to sniff him and say our goodbyes.  Dad then took Tamale back to the ER and released him for cremation.  Tamale returned home for good on Friday, January 15th.

Dad adopted Tamale in December 2006 and had him longer than any other pet so far.  Tamale was 14 years and 7 months old.  He would've been 15 in June.  We love Tamale and miss him so much.

The pic of Dad holding Tamale is one of the last few taken of him.  Dad isn't smiling there; he's trying to fight back tears.

Please forgive the poor engraving on Tamale's urn.  Dad is having someone else make a new plate, but we won't get it for another day or so.  The pic of Tamale in the yard was taken the morning on January 10th and was his last visit to our backyard.

We have more pics of Tamale on my Facebook page, and also a beautiful slideshow:

A Cats Purr

"Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...

A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice."
