Our new stuff: sofa, bench thingy and wooden boxes for tables There’s been a new smell in our front room.  Don’t worry – it isn’t Mum after a Friday night curry.  Actually, Mum doesn’t eat curry, but in case you’re wondering, it isn’t THAT kind of smell.

It’s a strange smell.  Hard to put a paw on what it is exactly but let me ‘splain.

Gibbs and I went upstairs one morning to have our usual nap till lunch time and when we came downstairs, the world had changed.  Well, OUR world, at least. In our front room (some people call a ‘front room’ a living room or a lounge), there was NEW sofa, and a long kind of bench type thing under the window, and as if that wasn’t enough, there were a couple of wooden boxes which Mum is using as tables.

Our old stuff had gone.  This new stuff has a smell of – how can I describe it – newness.  You know what I mean? New smells smelling of newness – does that make sense?

I didn’t like it.  I didn’t go in the front room for nearly a week because I didn’t like the smell.  I wished, in a way, that it was Mum after a Friday night curry, because – at least – you know THAT smell will go away soon.  Gibbs, though, ever the sucker-up cat, went in and sat on her lap after he’d had a good sniff of the new stuff.  He said it wasn’t too bad and that I was cutting my nose off to spite my face.

I had no idea what he meant by that, but I stayed upstairs where the only smell is me and I like that because I am familiar with that me smell.

After a week though, despite Mum calling to me and asking me to come into the front room with her and Gibbs, I decided I would check it out. I told her, if I didn’t like it, she would have to get the old stuff back and get rid of the new stuff. That’s going to be a bit difficult, Casey, she told me, because the old sofa had to be cut up to get it through the front door.

Cut up a sofa, I ‘sploded. It was very old, she replied.  It was pre-loved when she got it apparently. But that was my sofa, I told her. Well, hers and mine.  We shared it. It’s the only sofa I have ever known here – and Gibbs, for that matter.  I had two and three-quarter cushions, and she had a bit of a cushion.

So, people, be warned and be on the look out when your humans start moving things around in your home.  They might be making way for NEW STUFF and that would never do.

Till the next time,

Casey
