Hi everypawdy, Gibbs here.

Gibbs in his new box with the new scratchy things nearbyI’m so excited because the other day, a new box arrived for me and Casey.  Inside the box were some scratching things, but as soon as Mum took them out, I leapt in the box.  I love boxes.  They are probably my most favourite things, after breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper and a few snacks.

Casey isn’t too bothered about boxes, which is better for me, because then I get to hang out in it for as long as I want.  I haven’t got to share it with him.

I ‘spose I should tell you what Mum bought for us that was in the box, shouldn’t I? Well, we had two round scratchy things – one each and I’d scratched the living daylights out of my one.  Casey had given his a good going over as well, but my scratchy thing was almost just a pile of shredded cardboard!  Hah! I know how to get the scratchiest stuff out of the scratchy thing.

Gibbs in his new boxAnyway, when Mum went on the computer to see if she could buy replacement scratchy middles, she couldn’t believe her eyes.  They cost more than if she’d bought a whole new one.  Although we cats don’t handle money, we know that humans don’t want to waste money they haven’t got – especially our human Mum.

Mum decided to buy us completely new round scratchy things – and they arrived a few days later in the nice big box.  They also came with a sachet of catnip each which Mum sprinkled on the middle bit – that’s to encourage us to scratch, not that I need any encouraging.

Then Mum discovered a design flaw.  When she picked each one up to vacuum the carpet, there was a pile of catnip on the carpet.  She wondered where it came from and when she looked under the round scratchy thing, she was surprised to see that the bottom bit (where the round scratchy thing lives) was open.  Our old ones have solid bottoms so nothing can fall out.  She thought that was a bit stupid, so she took the new middles out of the scratchy things and put them in our old ones – the ones with the solid bottoms.   Nothing can fall out now and all the catnip stays in the cardboard which is what we scratch on.

Win-win, I’d say!

Till the next time,

Love Gibbs xxx
