The Cats Protection has created a leaflet detailing what you can do to ensure that should anything happen to you, your cats will be looked after for the rest of their lives.

For your peace of mind

‘We know how much your cat means to you and we know that you will want to make sure they are looked after in the event of your death.

‘By registering with our Cat Guardians service you can be assured that Cats Protection will be there for your cat and any other cats that you may own in the future. Once registered, when you pass away we will arrange to bring your cat to one of our branches or adoption centres, where they will be cared for by our dedicated staff and volunteers.’

Our promise to you – we will look after your cat for as long as it takes to find them a loving new home

‘There is no charge for the Cat Guardians service but many supporters do choose to remember Cats Protection in their wills. As a charity we rely entirely on donations in order to carry out our vital work. Gifts in wills fund more than half of everything we do, so you could enable us to help, care for and rehome more of these beautiful animals.’

Register today and provide for your cat’s future

With the four easy steps below you can be assured that Cats Protection will take care of your cat(s):

  • Firstly, complete the registration form and return it to us by Freepost. If you wish to register four or more cats please call us to discuss arrangements
  • Once we receive your form we will ensure that this information is included on our database
  • We will then send out your Cat Guardians pack which you can use to alert your friends and family to the fact that you have registered to the Cat Guardians service
  • You will need to make sure you include instructions in your will or codicil that confirm you would like Cats Protection to look after your cat(s) in the event of your death. Our suggested clause for this is:

“My Executors should contact Cats Protection (Registered Charity Numbers 203644/SC037711) of the National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, Haywards Heath, RH17 7TT to arrange for the care of any cats that I may own at the time of my death.!

Cat Guardians Pack

Letting others know that you have registered with the Cat Guardians service

‘We send a Cat Guardians pack to everyone who makes these arrangements with us and decides to register. This pack contains an information sheet to be kept with your personal documents and a wallet card to be kept on your person. These two items will notify people of your wish for Cats Protection to take care of your cat(s) should anything happen to you. You will also receive a key fob and a window sticker that will alert people to the fact that your are a cat owner.’

Established in 1927, Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. “We promise we will never put a healthy cat to sleep.”

For more information about this service, call the Cats Protection’s dedicated staff on 01825 741 271 (lines are open 9am – 5pm Mon – Fri)

The form is pretty straightforward asking questions about you and there is space to put the details of two cats. There is a large space to write extra details about your cat(s): this could include special dietary requirements or any health problems, quirky behaviour etc.

Finally, there is a little section about the vet, their name, address and telephone number.

And that’s more or less it. This will give you peace of mind that your cat(s) will be taken care of if something happens to you.

You owe it to your cats to think about their future now!

A Cats Purr

"Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...

A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice."
