Deric Longden latest book, Paws in the Proceedings, is a brilliant easy to read, ‘unput-downable’ book. Thermal and Tigger are now arthritic geriatrics who spend all their waking days asleep on little sheepskin mats alongside their very own personal heaters.

Enter Nokia, a feral black cat, who lives in Deric’s garden at paw’s length from any human contact. Deric, being the cat lover he is, fashions a kennel for Nokia, and puts food and all his creature comforts to paw. But it is Aileen, Deric’s wife who manages to get Nokia up close and personal although Deric feared for her safety to begin with as Nokia had shredded his arms on more than one occasion.

There are lots of other interesting things going on in this latest update from the never-boring Longden household and Deric is a wonderful raconteur, giving even inanimate objects a personality and a chance to shine conversationally. There were many laugh aloud moments and I hope it’s not too long before Deric brings out another book.

He does have ill-health now although he touches on it in the book, he isn’t specific, and so I hope it won’t be responsible for a hiatus in Deric’s wonderful story-telling adventures.

"One cat is company.
Two cats are a conspiracy.
Three cats is an attempted takeover.
