Tom Cox grew up with cats in his life and didn’t think there was anything wrong with crossing the road on his way to a disco with his friends just to be able to speak to a cat or tickle it under its chin.
As a music critic with more than a passing interest in golf he was in his element when Dee – the woman he married – came with a couple of cats.
Moving from Blackheath, near London, to various homes in Norfolk, more cats were added to their feline family.
Tom’s writing style is effortless prose, with great swathes of description about each of the six cats who have taken up residence in his heart and home. Tom writes with affectionate humour and is unashamed in his overwhelming love for cats. His cats seem to reflect that humour back in their various pranks and shenanigans.
I took this book with me to read on holiday in Turkey and suffered withdrawal symptoms when I finished reading it in only a few days.

"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a noise when you jump on it."
