This is a tribute to my best friend, Jasper, who I had to put to sleep on 4/27/09.
I picked Jasper up at the local shelter. He was known as Mitten rodeki. Three weeks previously, I had just put down my other cat, Buddy. At the time I was so devastated I promised myself that I wouldn’t get another cat. But when I got to the shelter Jasper came right up to me and 1 week later he came home with me for the next 16½ years.
Jasper had mega colon all his life so he always was constipated but for 16 years we lived through it. Jasper always knew when I was coming home and would always be waiting for me. He was a very special cat that loved to sit on the chair and watch me eat. When my girlfriend was sick, he was always there by her side.
Jasper was always happy to see us rolling all over the place and he’d purr away like mad! He had a routine every day; he would have his breakfast in the morning, and when he knew I was going to work he would go under the covers for most of the day.
Around the third week of March this year, he stopped coming to greet me and seemed very depressed; he had a poor appetite, was very lethargic and on his last night he tried to vomit but nothing came up. I took Jasper to the vet on 4/27/09 and he had a lot of fluid in his lungs and there was some liver damage. I had to end his pain by putting him to sleep. I cried so hard, but I know I did the right thing for my best friend and cat Jasper. Jasper was born December 1991 and passed away on 4/27/09. It’s been 2 weeks since I had to let him go and I’m still crying and grieving.
I love you Jasper and I miss you verrrry much
