Hi there and welcome to Issue 8 of the Scratching Post. A huge number of you wrote in last time to say how much you enjoyed Issue 7. I’m so pleased and thank you to every one who took the time to give me feedback – which I always welcome – good, bad or indifferent!

Before I launch into the links and other bits which make up the Scratching Post I have some devastatingly sad news to impart. Jimmy, the first ever feline correspondent for the Daily Mews website, was sadly put to sleep on Thursday 12th June. He was 24 years old. He had been slowly deteriorating and reached the point where he didn’t want to eat any more. He had a tumour in his mouth which, at his age, would have been far too risky to operate on. The decision was made to let Jimmy go peacefully.

I know many of you loved his columns because he told it ‘like it is’ and although he probably ruffled a few feathers each month, that was a good thing, because it kept us all thinking. Jimmy was a wonderful reporter and he will be missed by so many people. He leaves behind Holly and Daisy who are missing him dreadfully. He has already spoken of Holly taking the reins and the Daily Mews’ team and Holly’s ‘people’ are in negotiations now to see if she would like to follow in the ‘unfillable’ pawprints of the best of the best Feline Correspondents in the world.

If you would like to send your condolences to Jack (Jimmy’s human assistant and food bowl filler) please send them to me p.dewberry@ntlworld.com and I will forward them to Jack.

A light just went out in Malvern, (England) where Jimmy lived, but there is a new bright star in the sky twinkling merrily as he shakes up the Heavens!

2015 CAT CALENDAR

The entrants for the 2015 cat calendar have been chosen and the winners have been notified. In due course you will receive your very own copy of the first ever DAILY MEWS 2015 cat calendar. There will be additional copies for sale at a reasonable price which would make a good stocking filler for Christmas presents; I know its June and who wants to think about Christmas already? I know, I get it! Just saying …

Dan Weiss and I offer a mega huge thank you to everyone who submitted pictures of their cats. It’s been a mammoth task, sifting through the hundreds of photos but Dan finally selected his final 12. The calendar is stunning and I know you’re going to love it.
