Hi everyone and a very warm welcome to the new subscribers who’ve joined us since the last issue of the Scratching Post. I hope you all enjoyed the Mewsletter which went out about 2 weeks ago. On with your Post.
Today, AUGUST 17th is BLACK CAT APPRECIATION DAY. It’s a fact – and a sad and unfair one at that – that black and black and white cats are always the last to be adopted or chosen from rescue centres. To see what’s going on, please go to Wayne Morris’s Facebook page where you’ll get more information:
https://www.facebook.com/events/616834671746074/permalink/667046353391572/
And if you’re looking to adopt a cat or two this weekend, please think about taking on a black cat – they are just as loving as all the other colours you can get. My Sam was a beautiful cat, with impeccable manners and a fine conversationalist.
RESERVOIR CATS: True Stories and Cat’s Eye Views from Squirt by Penel Ashworth is on free promotion on Kindle from 28 – 30 August. If you haven’t already got yourself a copy of Squirt’s books - why not??? It’s totally brilliant and hilarious. And Squirt writes for the Daily Mews website – we have a genius in our midst, people - show some love and appreciation!!
BOOK QUIZ:
I’ve decided to resurrect the Book Quiz. If it doesn’t get enough response then it won’t make another appearance.
CAPTION COMPETITION:
The winner of Caption Competition #42 is Harry Waterson – well done, Harry, a small prize is on its way to you. The captions – including the winning caption – can be found on this link:
Now for this month’s competition.
PRODUCT REVIEWS:
A little while back Casey received a package from America. He was sniffing the envelope with excitement as it lay on the mat and he couldn’t wait for me to open it.
Farmer Ed (see review for contact details) had sent Casey some of the cat nip that he grows and George, who happened to be lying on the dining room table at the time, was also able to take part in the nip party.
MEWSERS’ CORNER
There have been some new ‘developments’ with George. You can read his ‘confession’ here:
‘My name is George and I’m a serial cat flap abuser.’
And here’s a little something he wrote for Mewsers’ Corner.

The 100 best cat photos:
Britta in the US sent me this amazing video (4 minutes long) of rescues – I had tears streaming down my face

Ham in the US sent this video link of a Mama cat trying to help her kitten down from a tree:

Marilyn in the US sent me this adorable little video of ducklings trying to negotiate some steps; you’ll be rooting for them all to make it:

Thank you to everyone who sent me links; there’ll be more next time. Can I just thank everyone who has sent me birthday cards either in the post or virtual cards or e-greetings. My granddaughter gave birth to baby Leo on August 2nd; he weighed in at 7lbs 5oz and he’s just lovely. We saw him when he was 2 days old; he was 2 weeks old yesterday. But Leo’s birth made me a ‘great’ grandmother and I aged about a thousand years in five minutes! LOL.
Mewsletter at the end of the month – hopefully – paws crossed.
Purr-filled blessings

Casey – Editor in Chief’s right pawed assistant wary of inviting strange smooth talking ginger cats into the house from now on!
"Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...
A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice."
