Hi Everyone and a warm welcome to all the newbies that came flooding in since the last Mewsletter was sent out! Kjiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu (this is Casey’s contribution – he just walked over the keyboard!!)

Thank you to those who gave for Audra (Dezi and Lexi’s Mommy).  It’s not too late if you’d like to give something to help Audra get a special chair so that she doesn’t have to sit on the floor and for Lexi to have some steps so that she can reach the bed and the couch:

How far would you go to Catify your home? Jackson Galaxy has written a new book called ‘Catification’ where he discusses easy ways to make your cats happier in their environment.  Simple ideas like putting shelves up on a blank wall for your kitties to climb up to (obviously you put away all your precious ornaments first!) as some cats feel safer and more in control if they are higher up than their housemates.

Write and tell me what you have done to give your kitties a happier environment. Send pictures and the best ones will be published on the website next time.  The best ideas will win a prize.

I just received a copy of the Newsletter that Carolyn Waterson of the Ozarks, Missouri sends out for the members who support the tri-lakes humane society. They have a wish list as long as your arm and there is also the opportunity to become an ‘angel’ to some of the residents currently in care. Do check out the link below to see if there is some small way you can help.  The cats and dogs will thank you.

CAT CHAT:

Laura Dumm wrote to tell me of a botched neuter operation which caused her cat, Bubba, to become the ‘Cat from Hell’.

My cat from Hell

The worrying and upsetting thing about Bubba’s botched operation is that there are some folk ‘out there’ who wouldn’t go to all the trouble to track down the problem as Laura did.  The cat would have been euthanized and a life would have been lost because of the original vet’s mistake.  I haven’t asked Laura if she took the matter up with the previous vet but I most certainly would have done.

ED KOSTRO:

Ed tells me that October is ‘Adopt a Dog’ month and he’s written a poem (which has been published in this week’s issue of Newshound – Waiting is the hardest part) to celebrate that fact and to encourage you to go to the rescue centres near you to adopt a dog.

MEWSERS’ MEWSINGS:

Butty, one of the Fallon Felines, wrote to tell me about a change that has come over her housemate, Willem, who is October’s pin-up boy.

Living with a diva cat

Has anyone else noticed diva-ish tendencies in their cats since appearing in the calendar?

I’m sure Dan won’t mind me mentioning that on his birthday coming up in December he will be 99 years young.  Mega huge thanks to Dan for such a wonderful work of feline art – a first – for the Daily Mews.

The 2015 Daily Mews Cat Calendar was a resounding success and all the winners now have their copies.  It was a mammoth task for Dan to sort through all the photos and although many will feel their cats deserved a place in the calendar, we couldn’t have them all, sadly.

NAPPING ON A SUNBEAM:

Jody Tucker from the US wrote to tell me that her beautiful Bombay Boy, Malachi James, sadly had to be put to sleep in April because he had cancer.  Here’s her lovely tribute to him:

This made me laugh out loud.  A little kitten discovers himself in the mirror:

This next link was posted on my Facebook page.  It’s an incredible little video (1.59) showing a dog that fell off a boat and what happened next.

And that about wraps it up.  The Mewsletter should be with you by the end of this month as long as there are no hidden bugs waiting to grab me!

Take care and keep warm.

The Very Best Toy for Cats

"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a noise when you jump on it."
