Hi everyone and a mega warm welcome to all the new subscribers who have joined us recently. Pull up a pew, plonk the cat on your lap, grab your favourite tipple and enjoy!
SPECIAL MENTION!
Before I get on with the links to new items on the website and the other links, I’d like to take just a moment of your time to tell you that Dan Weiss, (whose stories about Frankie and Johnnie which can be found here: http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/dan-m-weiss) has a birthday coming up on December 9th. Dan was instrumental in selecting the final photos for the first ever Daily Mews calendar and putting it together (I just did the words part!) and it was a tough job for anyone but if I tell you that Dan will be 99 (ninety-nine) years old on December 9th I bet you’ll all be surprised! I think I can quite safely say that Dan is probably the most senior subscriber that I have to the Mewsletter and Scratching Post.
If you would like to send a special birthday greeting to Dan for the 9th December please email me and I can forward your emails on to him or give you his email address, whichever you prefer.
BOOK QUIZ:
The winner of the Book Quiz was Ellen Pilch who got all five correct. I’m sorry because one of the books had several different options for the author. My apologies. Ellen will receive a prize in due course.
CAPTION COMPETITION:
The picture of Casey chilling on his tower didn’t inspire many of you so thank you to the kind folk who gave it a go.
Here are the captions and well done to Gordon for his winning caption.
Now for this month’s caption competition. The photo was submitted by Carol Lake and was taken in Dubrovnik while she was on a recent cruise.
CHRISTMAS STORY/POEM COMPETITION:
This is the final reminder because the closing date for the competition is 25th November. If you would like to enter the competition, please click on this link to get the details. If you know someone you think might like to enter, please let them know. It is free to enter and you can win a prize!!!
Christmas story/poem competition 2014
Winners will be announced in the Mewsletter towards the end of the month.
CAT CHAT:
I mentioned recently about Jackson Galaxy’s new book ‘Catification’ (which I haven’t read yet) and I asked what lengths people have gone to in order to ‘catify’ their homes. This could be placing shelves on a wall for your kitties to climb up and survey their ‘catdom’, for example. Rev. Marian Hale wrote to tell me what she has done for her cat, Pepper.
NAPPING ON A SUNBEAM:
Keith Whiting (from www.TheCatMag.com) sent me a poem that he has adapted and rewritten from an old one.

PURRFECT POETRY:
Watch out for the name Petal Knee. She is a displaced, disabled South African, now living in London who writes the most incredible poetry. Here is one I’m sure you’ll love:

Do try it on your cats and let me see the photos. The best ones will be put on the website. I haven’t done it with Casey yet but I will.
One of my favourite things of all times is the ‘Playing for Change’ movement that brings musicians from around the world together playing well known songs.
These are a couple of my all-time favourites – they give me goosebumps every time I listen to them:

That wraps it up for now. Hopefully I’ll be back at the end of the month.
Take care and keep safe now that the weather has turned cold, wet and windy.

"Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...
A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice."
